“Andharban”, the word itself means dense dark forest. Andharban is one of the most beautiful trek in Sahyadris. The best time to visit this place is during monsoon or post monsoon. In this trek, you descend for almost 4 hours and you are covered with dense forest and shade. En-route enjoy the waterfalls and awesome view of Kundalika valley. Here, we will be descending from Pune (Ghatmatha) to Konkan. This trek is also famous among nature lovers, shutterbugs for various species of Butterfly and flowers are there.
Anjanari fort is is famous for the birth place of “God Hanuman” and only place in world where you can find “Anjani Mata” temple . By recent information scientist found rare plant on Anjanari mountain which called “Anjanerika soparia” only available on this mountain, so will try to find this plant. Anjaneri fort is situated 20kms near Nasik Triambakeshvar range.
Dhak Baheri :
Dhak is one of the most exciting and challenging treks in the Karjat region. It is located in the middle of a cliff of Dhak fort. There are three access roots to reach the fort : Sandashi ,Rajmachi and Jambhiwali.
After the war at Jalna , Shivaji Maharaj reached Sangamner. The Moghuls got defeated in the battle with Shivaji and on 16th Nov 1679(6 months before death) Shivaji Maharaj arrived on the fort and rested here for a month to recover from prolong illness hence the fort got it’s name Vishramgad. In the year 1688 Matabarkhan had re-conquered this fort This fort was earlier known as Patta killa. The residents of this fort were called Pattekar. The forts like Alang , Madan , Kulang , Trimbak gad and Kalsubai peak are in the vicinity of Patta. From Patta fort one can keep watch on this complete region.Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has renamed this fort as Vishramgad.
Chanderi fort is situated in the center of the Matheran mountain range. At 790 metres, it is one of the highest points. There is a cave in its huge rock massif. The route up to the cave is a normal trekking route. From the cave, an exposed trail leads one to the topmost part of the fort. It is a risky climb in the rainy season. The view from the top is excellent. It was used as a watch-tower in olden days. A beautiful statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is situated on the top. For trekking to Chanderi, the base village is Chincholi (approachable from Badlapur & Vangani railway stations by road)
Located in Palghar region along Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway. This fort stands tall next to Adsul on the other side of highway. Built by Raja Bhoj in 13th century. This fort has changed hands to Bhimdev III (also known as Bimba), and then was under Portuguese occupation when they held Vasai region. Chimaji Appa younger brother of Bajirao Peshwa later won it in the Battle of Vasai on 17th January 1739. At entrance of the fort, there is rock sculpture of a crown and shield. Lotus pond and Caves are on top of fort.
Raireshwar is situated in Bhor Taluka near Pune, India. Raireshwar has a temple famous for its historical importance. The temple is very old and of stone structure, but it was later re-constructed in the 18th century. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj took the oath of Hindavi Swarajya in this temple at the age of 16 in 1645 and then created history. It’s said that he had cut his little finger and taken the oath by dripping blood onto the Shivling. There is a large portrait of Shivaji Maharaj and his friends inside the temple. Thus, Raireshwar can be considered as an important place in Maratha history. It is situated in between various hills and forts such as Kenjalgad. The temple is on a plateau, which has many beautiful flowers during monsoon, the best time to visit this place.
Chavand is a hill fortress situated 30 km from the modern-day town of Naryangoan in Junnar Taluka of Pune district in Maharashtra, India. The fort, which rises 1,036 meters (3,399 feet) above sea level, is located in the Sahyadri mountain range. The fort was looted and destroyed by the British upon siege. This is one of the forts known as the ‘Famous 5’. Chavaand, Hadsar, Shivneri, Jivdhan and Naneghat form the Famous 5 trek. The fort has remnants of construction that are more than 800 years old. Village of Chavandwadi lies at the base of the fort. Under the rule of Shivaji this was known as Prasannagad.
Kohoj, the hill fort is situated in Palghar region. One can see this fort while traveling on Mumbai-Ahmadabad highway near Manor Naka. This fort is at about 12 kms from Wada. We will be taking the route which starts from Waghote. This village is located on Manor-wada route at around 8 kms from Mumbai-Ahmadabad highway. One can reach to the top of Kohoj within 3 hrs from the base village. We can find the name of Kohoj in the list of those 23 forts, which were surrendered by Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the Purander treaty with Mughals on 11 June 1665.
Avchitgad is a fort located in the Sahyadri ranges of Maharashtra. The fort is situated near Roha in the Raigad district. At the base of this fort is a village called Medha. This fort is believed to be built by Shilahar kings and subsequently used by the Nizam of Ahmednagar. The great Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji is also believed to have reconstructed this fort. The work was carried out in a hurry and hence the name ‘Avchit’ (hurry) ‘gad’ (fort). In the Third Anglo-Maratha War, this fort was won over by Colonel Prother from the Peshwas in February 1818 along with other forts in the neighboring region.
